The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, located in downtown, contains a superb collection of modern masterworks and multiple exhibitions on ten floors. The eccentric and free-spirited side of San Francisco is best showcased in two stores: City Lights Books which has always been a symbol of free speech; and 826 Valencia – a fun and innovative non-profit store dedicated to all things pirate-related. For an interesting take on the link between art and religion, stop off at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, or amble along Haight Street with its swingin’ 60s vibe to get an idea of how the social revolution of the century began.
